Craftsman branded air compressors come in two basic colors and duty rating.   The homeowner type is currently painted red and the professional version is black.  Special edition compressors like the 80th anniversary edition are homeowner types painted gray.

 

If you use your compressor everyday I would suggest buying the professional version or at least buying the protection agreement for two to three years.

 

If you use your air compressor every weekend or less the red homeowner version will last you many years. 

 

A good rule of thumb for size.  Brad nailers 5 gallons or less, air nailers like coil nailers 5 gallon or more.  Air tools like impact wrenches take a lot of air so the 26 gallon homeowner is the minimum.
